Threadchecker, cool tool of the week!
The other day I was in Home Depot with a couple of bolts in my pocket looking to find two more to finish up a project. Matching a bolt or screw size in Home Depot kind of stinks cause they have not taken the opportunity to buy a decent hardware sizing tool that actually works. Instead they use some cheesy little goofy jig that is just about impossible to find in the store. Then I walked into Ace hardware and found the coolest jig or tool that you can possibly find. Even though the bolts and other hardware is more expensive than at the other hardware stores, this sizing tool made the job a lot easier. I thought it would be very hand if you could have one in your own shop and skip the nonsense of looking around or paying the higher prices. So a little research and I found it, its called the threadchecker and it does exactly what is says it will do.
- It can tell you the size of standard nuts, bolts, screws and drill bits
- It also does metric
- It has a nice design that looks good on the shop wall.
- Allows you to get “hyper organized” , no more messy hardware drawers.
- Measures both fine and coarse threads
I picked one up and its kind of one of those things where you wonder how you allowed that tool drawer to get so disorganized. For me, when I am doing a project, I just want to get it done. So I find that I really dont care about organization while I am working on the project, I just sort of let things fall where they may be. The problem is, I dont like to clean up either. You can find the Threadchecker here.
